The Eastern Sierra's during the fall season are spectacular. The golden aspen trees can be comparable to the New England autumn scenery, especially against the cool colored granite towering above, even better with a fresh dusting of snow. On Highway 395, northbound, you may have passed this exit named Tom's Place on your bolt outta Bishop, headed up to Mammoth or Tahoe. The rural community known as Toms Place is situated next to the fishing & camping paradise of Rock Creek & Lake Crowley. Rock Creek Lake is 10 miles deep into the Sierra range, way, way up the canyon.
description: Where the fishing is good & the crowds are minimal. If you want a Eastern Sierra canyon to call your own, Rock Creek near Lake Crowley may be your spot for the weekend. Summer campers are here on the peak holiday weekends, but most of the time it's pretty secluded & scenic. Aspen & boulder lined creek beds, awesome camping & cabins, plus granite views. As of 2008, the lodge at Tom's Place is very rustic -- and unfortunately run down. The cafe & bar are still very active.
