Sand Pond is 15 driving
minutes from Sierra City
and 1600 feet above town straight north. It's the lowest &
smallest in a line of lakes that include Lower Sardine, Upper
Sardine, and Young America. This is a great (and popular) swimming
lake; it's calm, shallow (no deeper than 15 feet) and warm, and
almost anyone can swim all the way across. Teeming with campers
and picnickers in summer. |

of Sand Pond taken from the other end, facing the Sierra Buttes.
You can tell by the reflection how tranquil Sand Pond is. Highest
point on the Sierra Buttes is about 8,700 feet. From the top, you can
see 100 miles every direction, all the way to Mount Shasta. |
