Camp Comforts

Comfortable Camping
what a concept

Best be prepared for pretty much any kind of weather when visiting the wilder areas of California. Snow blizzard, heavy hail, thunderstorms w/ lightning, serious wind, and yes even wildfire.

cloudsHigh & low temperatures can vary by 40-50 degrees in one day when enjoying nature. Mountains or desert, be ready for wind. Since we humans now spend so much time indoors ‘away from the elements’ we rarely notice, but the items below are must haves.

Always pack these items –

  • sunglasses
  • sunscreen
  • lip balm
  • warm socks
  • gloves
  • hat with brim
  • warm hat
  • good jacket
  • sturdy hiking shoes

Camping Solar Setups

sleep well

Fall asleep on a luxurious air bed (8″ off the hard ground). Stargaze with a camp cot, or relax the afternoon in a hammock. Clean up with a hot shower and stay warm with a tent heater. Enjoy electric power outdoors with solar energy, portable power pack and batteries. Improvements in outdoor gear has expanded in the past few decades, so there are lots of new LED lighting and weather gadgets available, among other items to help make the great outdoors more bearable.

Camp Shower

Bathing while camping is a luxury, but it can also be a challenge. If you are not really up for the cold creek or standing under the waterfall, and you plan to be out for more than 2 days, you may wanna invest in a decent camp shower system. If you cannot handle this type of primitive style camping, then best to book a reservation at a private campground with showers – or get yourself a motorhome.

Camping Toilet

Camping outside of a developed campgrounds mean you won’t have a (stinky) vault toilet nearby. Bring a shovel and learn to squat again. Check out our infamous Camp Potty page.

Propane Fuel

Why spend good money on small green propane cylinders, that are NOT re-fillable, when you can have a years supply of propane for pennies? These bulk fuel containers are good size tanks and they can hold propane fuel for the entire season, or week of RVing. Cooking, light the lantern and heating!

These big boys come in a variety of sizes & prices to fit your family camping needs. Home Depot usually has them.

Mosquito Repellents

Tent Heaters

These propane tent heaters are very popular, but safety should be of utmost concern when using one. Cross ventilation is a must. Folks have died from using these portable heaters, mainly due to inadequate air flow inside the tent: Asphyxiation. Best to use this item in moderation; not the duration of the whole night, while asleep.

Although a small green canister of propane last approximately 6-8 hours, extra caution should be given if you do plan to use it for a long period. Warming up the tent for bedtime is great, but once you are inside your cozy sleeping bag, you should be warm enough. Turn the heater off before you go to sleep – make sure the flame is gone and the valve is completely closed.
