There are very few places left on the California coast that you can actually drive a vehicle on the sand, right next to the ocean. The military bases, oil corporations and the utility companies have the front row seats to the Pacific genocide, and the rest of the population is restricted with extreme limited access.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baja California<\/strong> has minimal regulations on coastal access with a car. No pavement, no signs, no cell phone signal, and no help for miles &#8211; something to consider if you get stuck south of the border in Mexico. Baja has numerous places to explore below Ensenada, but asking locals is always a favored approach. Pay attention to private property signs and always close the cattle gate (if you found it closed).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-9517\" src=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/outside\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/silverstrand.jpg\" alt=\"silverstrand\" width=\"281\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/outside\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/silverstrand.jpg 500w, https:\/\/totalescape.com\/outside\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/silverstrand-300x189.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Southern California<\/strong>, no beaches allow vehicle traffic.\u00a0San Diego offers a sliver of sand @\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Silver Strand SB<\/a>, which is a developed campground for motorhomes and car campers, located right on the beach south of <a title=\"coronado island\" href=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/destin\/california-towns.php?tid=103\">Coronado,\u00a0CA<\/a>. Fiesta Island in Mission Bay, San Diego allows driving on sand and a favorite among active dogs, but not camping is allowed. In Los Angeles you can park a motorhome at a sandy, paved campground for a hefty overnight fee. Dockweiler Beach, right near the Chevron plant and LA sewage treatment facility. Sounds delightful, not.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ventura &amp; Santa Barbara Coastal Regions<\/strong> have many awesome <a href=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/outside\/campsites\/campground\/santa-barbara-beach-camping\/\">State Beaches<\/a>, but none allow vehicles on the sand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/outside\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/DSCN6671.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4940\" src=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/outside\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/DSCN6671-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"AWD on the sand\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/outside\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/DSCN6671-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/totalescape.com\/outside\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/DSCN6671.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Central Coast California:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a title=\"oceano dunes\" href=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/active\/wheelz\/OHVs\/oceano.html\">Oceano SVRA<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; off road sand dunes and open camping on the beach. Day use or overnight camp fee required; near <a title=\"pismo beach\" href=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/destin\/california-towns.php?tid=367\">Pismo Beach, CA<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Red, White and Blue Beach<\/strong> &#8211; nude beach w\/ campground (<strong>now closed<\/strong>); north of <a title=\"Santa Cruz camping\" href=\"https:\/\/totalescape.com\/destin\/california-towns.php?tid=429\">Santa Cruz, CA<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Northern California:<br \/>\nLost Coast<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a title=\"usal beach campground\" href=\"http:\/\/totalescape.blogspot.com\/2013\/06\/usal-beach-campground.html\">Usal Beach Campground<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; redwood creeks and forests meets coast and cliffs. Now that you&#8217;ve had fun on the beach, we remind you to clean the underneath of your vehicle ASAP. Spraying powerful hose in your wheel wells and all underneath the vehicle. You might need to lay on the ground and get wet to do this job properly.
