Deepest canyon in the desert of the Southwest US. The more popular Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim is near Flagstaff, AZ and features a historic railroad. The North Rim is 2000' higher in elevation, located in dense forests of Southern Utah, closes for winter snow (usually more than half the year). Driving around the perimeter of this enormous canyon is not a day trip, by any means. Plan your route, study your maps and make reservations for overnight lodging or campgrounds.
