Big Sur Back Roads

The Big Sur BackRoads page gives you a great idea of what kind of SUV access this back country has. Drive closer to your trailhead or get off the busy coast Pacific Highway 1.

Dirt roads here generally follow the ridge lines (2000-4000' above sea level), or they connect paved roads to the upper routes.

Nacimiento Road will easily access mountain dirt roads, southbound or north. Sykes Hot Springs, Prewitt Ridge, Ventana Wilderness trailheads are all popular destinations within the backcountry.
