Kernville California is located in the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains. Kern River is the Southernmost river & an outdoor recreation hub for this rural region. Located a few hours drive from Los Angeles and up the hill from Bako. Lake Isabella, the big reservoir & large granite lined valley is a recreation paradise for many outdoor enthusiasts. River rafting, kayaking, boating, tubing, fishing, golf, mountain biking, horseback trails, hot springs & much more. Summer temps can easily reach 100, so it is best to visit in the Spring, Fall or Winter months. The high elevation ridge lines get most of the snow pack & snow at the lake elevation is rare. Highway 178 extends from Bakersfield, thru the lower Kern Gorge, over to the Mojave Desert & is rarely closed.
