They're calling this area the "Lost Sierra" now, as a catchy marketing term, but since it has been popular for over 2 decades with hikers, mountain bikers, campers, and tourists, it's hardly considered lost, unknown or secluded. This town attracts thousands each year, mostly in the summer months. Fishing, kayaking, swimming holes.

Downieville California is also considered the Mountain Bike Capital of Sierra Nevada mountains. Mountain bikers flocking to this region for the great trails & the races. Gorgeous historical village with red brick buildings & bridges. With granite scenery like Lakes Basin & the Sierra Buttes, this place is a great weekend getaway for the active travelers. Rafting, kayaking, fishing, biking, it's all here. Plenty camping along the river or in Gold Lake region. Cabin rentals all over.
