Up the Kern River, way north of Kernville and the Johnsondale bridge is the scenic Western Divide Highway. Along this stretch of road is the southern most grove of Giant Sequoia trees, the Trail of 100 Giants. Portions of Sequoia National Forest became Giant Sequoia National Monument in 2000. Dome Rock, Needles Fire Lookout and aspen groves are just a few additional highlights of this region. Ponderosa is a cabin community @ 7200' elevation.

Visit this NorCal river to fish or raft or relax. Located minutes from Redding this small community is off Hwy 299, near Lewiston Lake, Whiskeytown Reservoir and Trinity Lake. Surrounded by Shasta Trinity National Forest, Lewiston boast some of the best river fishing around. Trinity Alps is closeby for day hikes or backpacking treks. Camping is abundant all around, or cabins are for rent nearby. You can even hire a local guide for rafting, casual floats or fishing trips.

Mountain bikers flock to the Northern Gold Country each summer for the epic trails around the Yuba River. Downieville has an annual bike race. The Sierra Buttes, Gold Lake, and Tahoe National Forest are the wilderness treasures of this Northern Sierra Nevada region. Lakes Basin is the map you'll need to explore the lake trails. Plenty campgrounds and fishing spots along the river and small lakes. Take Highway 49 north outta Grass Valley and just keep driving.
