California Reference
Hey you, City Driver: Most snowy areas in California are located along rural highways in curvy, steep mountains areas. Big hills and good traction (tires) are required for safety and control. If you have no idea of “how to drive in the snow”, take someone along who can advise. If you are not a good driver, then chances are you’ll find driving in snow terrifying.
ALWAYS Carry snow chains! See all the terrain & all the roads, on a good topographic map. Most snow ski resorts will be on National Forest lands way, way back there. AWD SUV, great. Know how t use it. 4×4 or 4WD (4 wheel drive) might be needed in a decent snow storm. Go to the wilderness in winter ultra-prepared.
